HIS STORY
While growing up he was always interested in sports, but living out of town limited his options, once in High School he was in the specialised cricket program that led to becoming captain of the under 14 and under 16 cricket side for his local team. His focus drifted from sport in his late teens, and more into motor vehicles, as his passion grew with his new career as a mechanic.
Now in his mid 20’s he found more time and started to go to the Gym on a regular basis. He found a real interest in the fitness industry and always wanted to learn more about the human body and how it worked. After regularly going to the gym for few years he started to look into different types of fitness outside of pin loaded machine and isolation exercises, this is where he found CrossFit, this turned into an immediate passion and nothing he wanted to put more focus into than learning about the CrossFit methodology.
This passion has now turned from being a member of Blue Lake CrossFit to owner - and the new journey is just beginning.

HER STORY
I have been at Blue Lake CrossFit since 2013, growing up I didn’t play any sports and wasn’t interested in doing so. In my teens I joined a gym - which I disliked and hardly went (although had to keep paying as it was a lock in contract) after my contract ended I cancelled. Fast forward a few more years a friend encouraged me to join again, this time I ended up enjoying it a bit more and did the group training classes but wouldn’t step foot in the weights room, for major fear factor!!
A year into being at a conventional gym I still felt uncomfortable being there and never felt like I fit it, and always felt awkward and judged. I started to look around town at other options. Along came the google search of CrossFit - yes my initial search freaked me out, but once I looked into Blue Lake I noticed the friendly happy vibe all the pictures had, so I bit the bullet and went to a free come and try session.
After joining CrossFit I never had that same feeling like I did in other gyms, I felt welcomed, comfortable and straight away fit in. I grew passionate and eager to improve and challenge myself. To this day the love of CrossFit is still strong and from that first come and try I have never left!

HER STORY
CrossFit enthusiast since January 2011
My life has been changed by CrossFit – and I know a lot of people say that but I truly believe that it has saved my life. By CrossFit I actually mean the community that it creates. My Coach taught me that I could do anything and he was right. I went from full time shift work in the “Curative” side of health to now focusing on “Preventative” health which in my view is so much more important for the future. Daily I am surrounded by people striving for their goals whatever that may be and the fact that I can help them achieve that is amazing. CrossFit made me fitter, faster, stronger – but I believe it has made me a better person as well.

HIS STORY
CrossFit devotee since March 2011
CrossFit literally changed the perspective of my life. The constant variance and infinite combinations that each day’s WOD brings offers me mental and physical battles that I cannot simulate anywhere else. I love the challenge – CrossFit has made me harder, faster, stronger and fitter than I’ve ever been in my life, and more able to tackle whatever is thrown at me. It has revealed my strengths, exposed my weaknesses but constantly dares me to do better next time.

HIS STORY
As a late bloomer to the fitness scene (I didn’t start going to a gym until after 40) I slowly built up my level of fitness and knowledge over the ensuing years. I was enjoying working out and learning about fitness and after a 10 week challenge at the gym, went searching for the next change to my regime. I found CrossFit and immediately knew it was what I was looking for – constantly varied, always challenging me and a group atmosphere that was very supportive. There is no doubt I am fitter and stronger than ever before in my life, and with the renewed confidence that this brings. Mixing it with crew half my age and occasionally performing better proves that age is not the barrier, but attitude is.
It was early days for Blue Lake CrossFit when I started and I feel lucky to experience BLCF evolve into the facility it is today. Coaching felt like a natural progression given my teaching experience and passion for CrossFit training. I take great pride when a member achieves something never before attained – their first pull-up, double under, PB’s (personal bests) with weights – and strive to help everyone achieve their best. It really is the biggest thrill! I believe in the methodologies of CrossFit and its ability to improve your fitness for just about anything life throws at you, and appreciate the opportunity to pass on my knowledge.

HER STORY
I have always loved sport, growing up playing netball, basketball and tennis. But after having 4 kids and a shift working husband I found it hard to juggle my own fitness time. My husband started CrossFit when it opened up in Mount Gambier and for years I said I would never do it. I always thought it was too hard and intense. However after watching him progress over the years and seeing the friendships and support that is shown during sessions and in house competitions I decided to give it a go. And I love it!
What do I love about CrossFit?
It's about bettering yourself. Not about beating other's but beating yourself - improving your times and/or weights. Everyday you try to make yourself better.
I love the tight knit community. No body judges your shortcomings. The coaches and other members are supportive and inclusive - helping each other out, cheering you on, giving you a high 5 after the WOD.
You get constant coaching and support. With small groups, coaches are able to help you focus on technique and safe movements. The coaches know your capabilities and limitations and work with you to help you reach your goals.
And I love the weight lifting! CrossFit is something that I never thought I could do. I had the mentality that 'I can't' and 'it's too hard' but lifting has given me a sense of empowerment and self confidence. There's still so much that I can't do but if I look back at my workouts and abilities I can see how much I have achieved. And how much more I can still achieve!
